Clock Tower Challenge

FRIDAY MARCH 26, 2010 @ 0:01 AM

The Clock Tower Challenge 2010 is not a race, but will take teams of up to 4 participants through 5 countries, and over 1,100 miles in just 3 event-filled days. Leaving Salisbury Guildhall Square at any time after midnight teams will visit selected clocktowers in Salisbury, Dover, Calais, Antwerp, Amsterdam, Xanten (Salisbury's German twin town), Brussels, Paris, Amiens and back to Salisbury by midnight on 28th March.

En route you will collect photographs of the clocktowers and complete a number of challenges. There will be prizes for shortest distance covered, longest distance covered, winner of the Clock Tower Quiz, oldest car to complete the route as well as the Premium Goody Bag for the winner of the postcard draw. Crossings, accommodation and all travel arrangements are for you to plan - part of the challenge! We can help with suggestions however.

There will be a pre event briefing a fortnight before the challenge. The entrance fee to cover admin is £100 per vehicle, with the target of obtaining further sponsorship for the team members.

Dead Sea Ultra Marathon

FRIDAY APRIL 9, 2010

On Friday 9 April a team of ten soldiers from the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment will undertake the gruelling Dead Sea Ultra Marathon. The 50k route goes from King Hussein Park in Amman, Jordan, to the Amman Tourist beach beside the Dead Sea, passing through the lowest point on earth.

Training has been interrupted by the team members preparation to go to Afghanistan later this year. In doing the run they not only lose precious leave time with their families, but are also contributing to the travel and accommodation costs, to ensure Salisbury Hospice receives every penny of the sponsorship money.

Recently RSM John Stork and SSgt Chris Attwell visited the Hospice offices to plan fundraising activities. They explained that they feel that as members of the Wiltshire community have been so generous in supporting Forces charities it was their way of giving something back, through supporting a local charity such as Salisbury Hospice.
