Physiotherapists, Occupational and Complementary Therapists
The Palliative Care Therapy Team is based at Salisbury Hospice. The team work with in-patients, day care patients attending the Peter Gillam Support Centre and patients in their own homes.
The Palliative Care Therapy Team consists of an occupational therapist (OT), physiotherapist (physio) and therapy support worker, who work together to address any therapy needs. This might involve:
- helping to set achievable goals
- helping to retain choice and control in what patients do
- managing fatigue and conserving energy
- advice and help with doing everyday activities
- provision of small pieces of equipment to make activities easier
- relaxation sessions to help manage any breathlessness, pain, fatigue or anxiety.
The physiotherapist may also assess and give advice on exercising and address any mobility issues patients may have.
The occupational therapist may assist patients to participate in activities that are important to them and can assess their home environment for any equipment or adaptations that could be of benefit.
The therapy support worker supports both the OT and physio in their roles.
The team is made up of:
- Alison Gittins
Physiotherapist - Dawn Stretch
Occupational Therapist - Caroline Taylor.
